FLORIST FLOWERING YOUR WORLD – Dayfleur

Welcome to our interview & blog with florists, about florists, for florists. This month’s florist to present is Shandi, the passionate artisan behind Dayfleur.

In the Floral World of Shandi – DayFleur, Switzerland|
At DayFleur, in the heart of the Swiss countryside, flowers aren’t just a profession: they’re a true family affair. Shandi, a passionate artisan, grew up among roses, peonies, and lilies. His mother was a florist, his father became one out of passion. “I was literally born into it,” he says with a smile. From the age of five, he helped his parents receive the arrivals, and from a very young age, he spent his afternoons at the family shop until closing time.

Movie-Style Sets
Shandi recalls unique experiences throughout his career. He enthusiastically discusses the majestic settings that have punctuated his career: sumptuous weddings organized in exceptional locations, such as the Geneva Golf Club, or the decoration of a spectacular villa worthy of a James Bond film. Among his memorable memories is also a round trip to Lugano, on the other side of Switzerland, to deliver a gigantic bouquet of roses at dawn. “It’s these slightly crazy moments that make this job unforgettable,” he confides.

The driving force: the human connection
What motivates Shandi today isn’t the numbers, but the human connection. “I could have bought another store, but I didn’t want to. What matters to me isn’t the turnover, it’s the relationship with my customers and the trust they place in me.”

He also draws his happiness from the closeness of his team. For him, working together should be synonymous with shared pleasure. “Even our customers often tell us how incredibly lucky we are to work in such a peaceful environment.”

A florist committed to the environment
In the countryside, ecological commitment takes on its full meaning. At DayFleur, nothing is left to chance: green waste is composted, waste is sorted, and all deliveries are made almost exclusively by electric cargo bike. Last Mother’s Day, the team travelled nearly 150 km in a single day, delivering 99% of the bouquets without using a car.

Water from the vases is collected to water the plants, and coffee grounds are used as natural fertilizer. “It’s a way of working that’s both more environmentally friendly and more economical. No need to worry about parking or fines,” notes Shandi.

Projects focused on sharing
Shandi envisions the future of DayFleur in continuity, but also in innovation. The team is expected to expand by one or two people in the coming years to continue to enhance weddings and events. But Shandi also entertains the idea of creating a welcoming space where customers can come and enjoy a tea or coffee, surrounded by flowers. “Many people already ask us if they can just stay for a few moments to soak up the atmosphere. I’d like it to become a real experience.”

Hukra’s Difference
When it comes to suppliers, Shandi makes a point of working with reliable partners. At Hukra, he finds, above all, a valuable human connection. “We always have the same contact person, our requests are truly taken into account, and responses are quick. The e-shop is practical, but nothing replaces genuine listening and responsiveness.”

A philosophy that directly aligns with his own: flowers, human values, and a sense of connection.
