FLORIST FLOWERING YOUR WORLD – My Trotzig

Welcome to our interview & blog with florists, about florists, for florists. The first florist of the year to present is:

Name: My Trotzig
Works: Attends the Florist training at St. Eriks Gymnasium and has worked extra at Quarteret Blommor.

This time in 2026 we will follow a young girl who is in her final year at the florist gymnasium and her exciting path to the Professional World Cup in Shanghai this fall.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is My, I am 18 years old and grew up in Kallhäll north of Stockholm. I live there with my family and am next door to my grandmother and grandfather. I grew up in a closeknit family so we hang out a lot. When I was little, we were often out in the forest and nature in the countryside with my family in Östergötland. Both my grandmother and grandfather have always been very interested in growing and nature. I have many memories from when I was younger when my siblings and I planted with my grandmother. Grandma and grandpa have always supported me and my siblings a lot and when they heard that I was going to participate in the professional World Championships, they were completely taken! It didn’t take long before they had converted a small part of their garage into a workshop where I could be and create.

I’m in school right now, in the 3rd grade. There’s about six months left of my education. I started 2 weeks later than my classmates. It was a bit tricky with my choice of high school at the beginning; it wasn’t obvious that I would become a florist. But I’m enjoying it very much, it couldn’t have been better!

Then I competed for the first time this spring, April 2025 in Karlstad, at the debutant competition GRÖN. That’s where it all started. I won! So much fun! I immediately felt that I wanted to do this again.

I went in with zero expectations and just wanted to have fun. I played football when I was younger so I’m probably a bit of a winner! Petra, my teacher, encouraged me to apply. I got a lot of support and help from my school. About a week before the competition I finished the balcony box, the basis for the first competition/main task that you have to prepare and bring with you to the competition. I had about 1-2 months to prepare, but still I put it off until the last second. It’s a bit typical of me unfortunately but I almost think I work best that way. I probably didn’t understand how much time you need to put in beforehand. But it took a lot more than I  thought, luckily it went well anyway!

After the competition they asked me if I was interested in competing more, they wanted to see if I thought it was fun first. At that time my teachers had already registered for the 2026 World Cup, a place for the florist profession in the competition. Then we booked a meeting with the Swedish National Vocational Team and it sounded so much fun so I said yes without really knowing what it was, how big it is and what is actually required. So now I have said yes to the WorldSkills Vocational World Championship 2026 in Shanghai in September! It will be such an incredible journey all the way until September when the competition is! So, so much fun!

There will be a lot of training for the Vocational World Championship. When you get there, you just want to compete and have fun! Take everything in and feel well prepared.

My APL that I have in our week 4-12 is also part of the training that is well planned. I will be with three different florists who have experience in WorldSkills and competitions across teams. I will be at Floristkompaniet with Johan, Stilfloristerna in Linköping with Jimmy and then at Prinsgatans Blommor in Gothenburg with Lina. It will really be great fun, I am so excited!

Then I will have my own training with Carro who will also be my expert in the Vocational World Championship. Carro is the teacher here at the school who will accompany me all the way to the competition in Shanghai. She has received old competition assignments from previous professional World Championships that I will be able to compete in training with.

At the beginning of December I was able to participate in Nobel. In previous years when the school has been able to participate, almost only the adult classes have been asked, but this year I and 3 classmates from high school also got to join in and it was so much fun! It was a fun way to work as we worked in steps and completely without knitting mass. Instead, we used what looked like a tangled net of aluminum wire so that it would be both more environmentally friendly but also provide firmness and stability.

Before the professional World Championships there will be meetings with the professional national team to form team building, get to know each other and we will get mental and media training. Hopefully there will also be training competitions abroad. There was a professional competition in Belgium in November 2025 and you could probably say that it is like their equivalent to our professional SM here in Sweden.

In May there is the Professional SM for florists at Älvsjömässan here in Stockholm. The florist who wins then will become Sweden’s Florist representative in the Professional World Cup 2028 in Japan. During the Professional SM, the entire 2028 professional national team will be developed. I will not be competing but I will practice competing under the same conditions as everyone else.

It’s going to be a very exciting year filled with floristic challenges for My. So, so much fun & we’ll be keeping up!
