FLORIST FLOWERING YOUR WORLD – Brin d’Herbe

“It’s truly magical to see that you’ve been able to make a difference in people’s lives.”
Welcome to our interview & blog with florists, about florists, for florists. This month’s florist to present is Manu, who runs Brin d’Herbe in Collonges sous Salève.
From a very young age, flowers have been an integral part of his life.
“I fell into them when I was little,” he confides with a smile. Inspired by his parents, who were passionate about gardening, he grew up amazed by the magic of nature. “Seeing a simple seed become a flower or a tree… it was fantastic. I hesitated between nature and animals, but I chose flowers.”
Spanning Generations
In thirty years of practice, he has seen entire generations come and go.
“I started with parents as clients; today, it’s their children, now adults, that I meet. When I tell them I’m going to stop, they tell me they’ve only known me. It’s touching. I’ve been part of their lives, through the good times and the bad. It’s truly magical to see that you’ve been able to make a difference in people’s lives.”
Passion as a driving force
What still motivates him today?
The desire to support people through all the important events in their lives.
“Sharing this passion, staying in touch with clients, explaining what I do and advising them… that’s what gives me energy.”
Strong values to pass on
For him, working with flowers is, above all, about respecting life.
“People have forgotten that flowers are alive, in a society where everything moves too fast. I often notice that they get stressed when it comes to choosing a bouquet or a plant. They absolutely want to find something that will please the person. But I try to remind them of one simple thing: if you give something you like, and the person knows you, then they’ll definitely like your choice.”
Environmental awareness
Aware of the impact of his work, he also takes small steps to help the environment: “We try to sort plastic and cardboard,” he explains simply.
And tomorrow?
On the future of his shop, he is clear: “I created it, and I will be the one to close it. I don’t want to sell it, for fear that the passion will disappear and the shop will deteriorate. Unfortunately, I feel that this passion is being lost today.”
Precious loyalty
Finally, he emphasizes the importance of the partners who support him.
“I’ve been working with Hukra for thirty years. The team is fantastic; there’s a real connection. When something goes wrong, they trust me and find a solution quickly. This relationship of trust is precious.”
